Water-based, solvent-based, and hot melt adhesives are the three most common types of label adhesives, each suited for different applications. But what exactly are the differences between them, which scenarios are they best used in, and how can you tell them apart? Today, let's take a closer look.
Table of Content
Pocket tissue seal labels are the clear adhesive strips placed on the opening flap of small tissue pack. Their main purpose is to keep the pack securely closed while allowing users to open and reseal it multiple times. Most of the labels are made from transparent PET or BOPP film, chosen for their strength, clarity, and flexibility..
Unlike ordinary stickers, seal labels use special low-residue or reusable adhesive that ensure smooth peeling without tearing the package. They must stay clean, flat, and firmly attached even after repeated use.
In short, a pocket tissue seal label is a small but essential component that ensures hygiene, ease of use, and overall product quality.
High Transparency
The label must be clear enough to blend into the packaging, ensuring the artwork, logo, and product information remain fully visible. A clean, transparent look also reinforces the feeling of hygiene and quality.
Strong but Smooth Adhesion
Seal labels need adhesives that hold firmly when the pack is closed yet peel open smoothly without tearing the film. This balance is crucial for maintaining a neat opening edge and preventing damage to the packaging.
Durability for Repeated Use
Pocket tissues may be opened and resealed many times throughout the day. A good seal label stays sticky, flat, and intact even after repeated bending and pulling.
Resistance to Moisture and Friction
Because the product is often placed in pockets or bags, the seal label must resist humidity, sweat, friction, and pressure without lifting or curling.
Compatibility with Automated Packaging
For mass production, the label must work seamlessly with high-speed labeling machines, maintaining consistent quality and positioning.
Pocket tissue seal labels are typically made from thin, flexible film materials, including:
PET Transparent Film
High clarity, strong tensile strength, great durability. Ideal for premium brands.
BOPP Transparent Film
Lightweight, cost-effective, and resistant to stretching. A popular choice for most pocket tissue manufacturers.
Soft PVC Film
More flexible and soft; used for certain specialty or custom applications.
These materials are chosen for their ability to remain clear, smooth, and stable even after multiple uses.
Choosing the correct material and adhesive is the key to making a high-quality pocket tissue seal label. For the face stock, PET and BOPP are the two most suitable options. PET offers excellent transparency, strong durability, and a premium look. It does not stretch or tear easily, making it ideal for brands that want long-lasting performance. BOPP is lighter, more flexible, and more cost-efficient. It works very well on high-speed packaging machines and is the most common choice for mass production.
Adhesive selection is equally important. For pocket tissues, the best option is reusable adhesive, which allows the label to open and reseal many times without losing stickiness. It prevents curling, keeps the flap neat, and ensures the tissues stay clean. Another option is removable low-residue adhesive, which peels smoothly and leaves no glue on the packaging. This type is ideal for brands that focus on clean, easy peeling.
In short, choose PET for premium clarity, BOPP for efficiency, and always pair the film with a reusable or low-residue adhesive to ensure a smooth, durable seal.
When customizing transparent seal labels for pocket tissues, keep the following points in mind to ensure proper performance and a good user experience:
Accurate Size Matching
Measure the flap size carefully before designing the label.
Ensure the label is long enough to seal securely while still easy to peel.
Corner Shape Selection
Rounded corners are strongly recommended because they resist lifting.
Sharp corners curl easily during friction inside pockets or bags.
Printing and Markings
Consider adding a small “Open” arrow or line to guide the user.
Simple markings make peeling more intuitive and improve usability.
Material & Adhesive Compatibility
Confirm the chosen film (PET or BOPP) matches your packaging film.
Ensure the adhesive performs well during repeated opening and resealing.
Roll & Core Specifications
Match roll width, outer diameter, and core size with your labeling machine.
Proper specifications help avoid alignment and feeding issues in production.
Sample Testing Before Mass Production
Request sample rolls for real-condition testing.
Check clarity, adhesion, peeling smoothness, and performance under humidity.
Transparent seal labels may seem like a small part of pocket tissue packaging, but they directly affect hygiene, usability, and brand perception. A high-quality seal keeps the pack closed during daily movement, allows smooth and repeated opening, and maintains a clean, premium appearance. By choosing the right film material, selecting a reliable adhesive, and customizing key details such as size, corner shape, and markings, brands can significantly enhance the overall user experience. For manufacturers, proper testing and precise roll specifications also ensure stable production and consistent product quality. In short, a well-designed seal label is a low-cost upgrade that delivers noticeable value to both consumers and brands.

Brother DK-2205 Compatible Continuous Labels 2.4" x 100'
I have an outdated Zebra LP2844 printer. My wife had recently started a small Bakery Business and, wanted to be able to put a label on her products. I thought since I already have the Zebra, I could print some labels for her from that. The printer is useless. So when we saw the ilabel printer we decided to try it. I like that can sit right on my desk, not taking up much space. the ease of downloading the software to my computer. I was even able to use the remaining 4x6 labels from the Zebra to do some testing. Now I just need to get the proper labels for my wife's project. Still trying to figure out what size label to get. Over-all, This is a nice replacement printer for my old Zebra.
These labels are easy to install and work perfectly in the Brother QL-820w printers.
The labels don’t work. They fit in the machine but you can’t get the print online up. It cuts the label off to one side or it prints sideways
I have been a stamps.com customer for years printing with a brother QL-1100. I had a problem with the new "Global Post" shipping method. I called tech support. After 2 hours on the phone, no solution. My Brother printer has never worked again. Brother refused to help because I used Betchey labels. I ordered the I Label because it used the same label. I set it up. Yes, it printed a test label. It has never printed a label. Yesterday I spent 4 hours with stamps.com tech and no solution. I am printing on paper and laminating with packing tape. I am trying to find a substitute for stamps.com. Any suggestions?
I was looking for a 2.4x3.4 or 3.5 and that’s not available
Ordered these and got them next day. Very impressed with speed.
