According to Amazon, the first step of FBA fulfillment is finished by sellers, which is to send products to FBA warehouses, called FBA inbound shipment. Sellers need to correctly pack and label their products and choose a FBA inbound plan. After the products are sent to the designated warehouse, Amazon will fulfill your products to customers.
For every newbie FBA seller, this can be tough. There are so many things to learn, let alone the ever-changing FBA policies. So we will explain the whole process for you in three articles.
In this article, we’ll discuss how to pack your FBA products, including the general packaging requirements. At the bottom, we’ll provide detailed packaging resources for different product categories. These resources include almost all e-commerce categories.

The most common FBA packaging materials are:
To know the packaging requirements for each package material is important. Because wrong package will take more time and money, resulting in re-package or rejection.
Must be six-sided.
Must have openings or a lid that will not easily open on its own. If the box can easily open on its own, use tape, glue, or staples to keep it closed.
Must not collapse when medium pressure is applied to any of the sides.
If the boxed unit has perforated sides or openings, the product must pass a 3-foot drop test, consisting of one drop on each side, and one drop on a corner. If the product does not pass the drop test, it must be placed in a poly bag with a suffocation warning.
The thickness of the bag must be at least 1.5 mil (thousandth of an inch).
The poly bag must be transparent.
The poly bag must have a barcode (such as a UPC or EAN) or X00-label that is scannable through the bag or have an X00- or ASIN label on the outside of the bag.
Poly bags must be completely sealed.
The poly bag or shrink wrap must not protrude more than 3 inches past the dimensions of the product.
Adult products must be packaged using black, opaque poly bagging or shrink wrap.
Poly bags with a 5-inch opening or larger (measured when flat) must have a suffocation warning, either printed on the bag or attached as a label. Failure to apply a suffocation warning label may lead to the items being re-bagged.

less than 29 inches |

Products with bubble wrap must meet the following criteria:
Tightly wrapped and taped shut so the product cannot fall out
Labeled with a scannable barcode on the outside
Able to pass a 3-foot drop test on a hard surface without the contents breaking. A drop test consists of five drops:
Flat on base
Flat on top
Flat on longest side
Flat on shortest side
On a corner
Each unit sent to Amazon must be contained in a single, secure package. Units that are not contained in a package, must be bagged or secured with easy to remove tape. For example, you are selling a toy that have many small compartments. In this case, you should put all the parts in one single package. Footwear must be packaged with no shoe material exposed, either in shoe boxes or in poly bags with a suffocation warning. Clothing such as shirts or pants, should also be secured in a poly bag to prevent damage.
For Clothes products, Normal hangers are not allowed. Mini hangers for baby clothes are allowed. Accessories, bras, hats, shorts, socks, hosiery, sweaters, swimwear and underwear are not allowed to use any kind of hangers. For complete packaging requirements of clothes, check this link or scroll down to the bottom of this part.
Might fall out of its packaging if the container is not taped shut
Might leak if the lid is not taped in place
Is not fully sealed within the container
During the initial shipment creation step, you must choose a Packing type, either individual products or case-packed products. Since individual products have a more loose packing requirements, you probably have heard tips like “even if your products are case-packed prosucts, choose individual products”, but we don’t recommend anything, just choose a type that fits you best.
Individual products are products with different SKUs or different conditions. Individual products can contain different quantities of the same SKU in each case and can contain more than 150 units each case. For example, you are shipping 100 6 x 9 inch poly mailers and 200 6 x 9 inch cellophane bags. You can put them all in one case.
Case-packed products are products that are packed by case, typically meaning multiple identical or related products are packed into one box in a fixed quality for packaging and shipping. For example, a packaging supplier sells case-packed 100 poly mailers (500 bags each box). This is a common packaging form in e-commerce, wholesale and retail industry.
A product that with a price less than &15, a volume less than 16 x 9 x 4 inches, and a weight less than 15 ounces (0.42 kilo) is qualified as a small product and can apply to join Amazon’s small parcel programme. If you join this programme, your parcels are subjects to the following packaging requirements:
Small-parcel deliveries (SPDs) consist of units packed in individual boxes, and each box is individually labeled for delivery. These are normally smaller shipments that are sent via DHL, UPS, FedEx, or local postal services.
Small-parcel delivery (SPD) with a partnered carrier: 200-box limit per shipment.
Small-parcel delivery (SPD) with a non-partnered carrier: 500-box limit per shipment.
Print the full set of labels. Because each label is unique, do not photocopy, reuse, or modify labels for use on additional boxes.
All small parcel delivery boxes must have shipment labels, and shipment labels must not include other messaging. If you are reusing boxes from previous shipments, be sure to remove or cover any other shipment labels, barcodes, or markings.
Shipment labels must be consistently placed in a way that is easy to see, either on the top or side of the box. Side placement is preferred.
Do not place shipment labels on the seam of the box where they could be damaged when the box is opened, making the barcodes unscannable.
Whenever possible, place shipment labels no closer than 1.25 inches from any edge of the box. The tape used to seal the box should not cover the shipment labels.
