Getting a book from Amazon with a label stuck right on the cover can be pretty annoying. Whether it’s a barcode , price tag, or shipping label , getting rid of these stickers without wrecking the book can be a bit tricky. Luckily, there are some great methods to remove those labels cleanly and keep your book looking good. Here’s a simple guide to help you out.

Before diving into label removal, check how tough the label is. Try peeling off a corner with your fingers. If it comes off easily, you’re good to go. If it’s sticking on stubbornly, avoid yanking too hard to prevent tearing the cover. Instead, you’ll need some tools. The methods listed here work well for both paperbacks and hardcovers with glossy finishes. But if your book is clothbound or very old, it’s best to avoid heat tools or solvents.
Labels stick because of their adhesive, so the key is to weaken that stickiness. You can do this by using heat or chemicals. Heat can soften the adhesive, making it easier to peel off. Or, you can use certain chemicals to dissolve the adhesive.
Here’s a list of tools you might need, ranging from common household items to more specialized tools. Also, have some paper towels or a cloth ready to wipe away any leftover residue.
Physical Tools
Sticker Lifter: We don’t recommend knives—they’re too sharp. If you don’t have a Scotty Peeler, a ruler or a credit card works just as well.
Blow Dryer: A blow dryer can soften the adhesive, making it easier to remove the label.
Heat Gun: If you often deal with removing labels, investing in a heat gun might be worth it. For occasional use, a blow dryer should be enough.
Goo Gone: Great for getting rid of residue, especially on glossy covers.
Ronson Off: Perfect for sticker residue, especially on dust jackets with paper or matte finishes. It evaporates quickly and leaves no stains.
Lighter Fluid (Liquid Type): Apply directly to the paper, and it’ll evaporate within a minute, leaving no residue. Ideal if you’re worried about heat or oils.
1. Test the label: Start by trying to peel off a corner with your fingers. If it’s tough, move to the next step.
2. Warm up the label: Use a blow dryer or heat gun to warm the label. If using a heat gun, blow it at the label for about 5 seconds. If using a blow dryer, blow it at the label for about 30 seconds. You can use longer or less time .
3. Peel off the label: Gently peel off the label by hand or use a sticker lifter if you have one.
4. Remove residue: If there’s any sticky residue left, apply a solvent like Goo Gone. Pour a bit on a paper towel and rub it over the residue. It should come off cleanly in a few seconds.
1. Apply lighter fluid: Put a small amount of lighter fluid on the label.
2. Peel off the label: Once the lighter fluid has worked its magic, use a Scotty Peeler or a similar tool to gently peel off the label and any remaining residue.
By using these methods, you can effectively remove labels from Amazon packaged books without damaging your books.
Finally, place the printed sticker sheet on a light grip mat and load it into your Cricut machine. Use a brayer or felt squeegee to smooth out any air bubbles. Select the appropriate settings for cutting sticker paper, and then cut your designs.
Today we covered some easy ways to get rid of book cover labels, including heat, solvents, and the simple method of using your hands. If you’re new to removing labels, you might worry about damaging the cover. For glossy covers, any of these methods will work. But if your cover is made of paper similar to the inner pages, it’s best to be cautious. Choose the method that works best for your specific situation. Good luck!

Always consistent quality with these labels and with Betckey in general. Fast shipping; great prices when ordering in bulk and lots of choices for different colors in addition to the white ones.
These labels are every bit as good as the (Preferred) brand, at a lot less of a price.
