Have you ever heard of pearl film labels? Do you know what they are, when to use them, and how they differ from regular thermal labels?
Labels might look simple, but the material you choose can make a big difference — not only in how your product looks, but also in how it performs over time. Today, we’ll explore the differences between pearl film labels and regular thermal labels, their unique advantages, and how to choose the right one for your business.
Table of Content
Thermal labels are one of the most widely used label types in retail, logistics, and daily operations/ it’s made from thermal paper, a special type of paper coated with heat-sensitive material. When this surface comes into contact with the print head of a thermal printer, it reacts to heat and produces clear black text or barcodes -- all without needing any ink, toner, or ribbon.
This simple printing method makes thermal labels fast, convenient, and affordable. That’s why they’re the go-to choice for shipping labels, receipts, and barcode labels used in warehouses or supermarkets.
However, thermal labels also come with some clear limitations. Since the printed surface is heat-sensitive, exposure to sunlight, high temperatures, oil, or water can cause the text to fade or darken over time. They’re also not tear-resistant and are best suited for short-term use.
However, there are also new types of thermal labels designed to suit multiple environments, such as waterproof thermal labels, low-temperature thermal labels, and high temperature thermal labels.
A pearl film label is made from synthetic materials such as polypropylene (PP) or polyester (PET), rather than paper. What makes it stand out is its unique pearlescent finish — a subtle shimmer that gives products a polished and premium look. Because of its film-based structure, it offers far greater durability than regular paper labels.
Unlike direct thermal labels, pearl film labels are typically printed using the thermal transfer method, which requires a ribbon to transfer ink onto the surface.
These labels are not only strong but also flexible, allowing them to adhere smoothly to curved or uneven surfaces such as bottles and jars. As a result, they’re widely used in cosmetics, personal care products, beverages, pet supplies, and cold-chain logistics, where labels must maintain their clarity and beauty even in demanding environments.
In essence, pearl film labels are the perfect choice for brands that value durability, elegance, and quality presentation. While they cost a bit more than standard thermal labels, they elevate the overall appearance of a product and help build a more professional and trustworthy image.

Key Takeaways:
If your priority is durability and professional appearance, pearl film labels are worth the investment.
If your priority is cost-efficiency and convenience, especially for temporary labels, regular thermal labels are sufficient.
By knowing these differences, businesses can choose the label type that fits both their budget and brand image, ensuring every product looks and functions just right.
When choosing between pearl film labels and regular thermal labels, it all comes down to how the label will be used — and what impression you want to leave.
Pearl film labels are known for their beautiful pearlescent finish and premium texture, which immediately elevate the look of any product. Because of their high cost and elegant appearance, they’re commonly used to enhance brand image or support eye-catching designs.
These labels are widely applied in cosmetics and personal care products, high-end packaging, gift boxes, advertising materials, wine and beverage labels, greeting cards, and certification documents. In some cases, the pearlescent effect is even used for security identification, such as on bank cards or ID cards, adding a unique visual and protective element.
Regular thermal labels, on the other hand, are much more cost-efficient and versatile. They are ideal for shipping, barcodes, address labels, and general product labeling — essentially any application where water resistance or long-term durability is not required.
Their simplicity, affordability, and compatibility with direct thermal printers make them a top choice for logistics, retail, and everyday business operations. With Betckey’s upgraded formula, even these thermal labels offer improved fade resistance, ensuring printed information stays clear for months of use.
If your goal is to create an elegant, durable, and visually striking label for high-end or branded products, pearl film labels are an excellent investment. But if you need fast, reliable, and budget-friendly labeling for daily operations like shipping or inventory management, regular thermal labels will meet your needs perfectly.
At Betckey, we provide blank thermal labels— high-quality thermal labels that resist fading for up to two years, and if you need pearl film labels that give your products a professional, luxurious finish, please contact us to customize. Dymo 30256 Removable Film Waterproof Shipping Labels 2-5/16” x 4”
I use these to print information tags and barcodes/prices for my boutique. The tags allow me to include all information required for customers to understand the item fully, and because the labels are sticker, it allows them to transfer this information into booklets which they keep for referencing. Highly recommend.
I have a Brother QL-800, and these label rolls fit perfectly. The glue sticks well to smooth surfaces, and the printing is clear. I like that each roll has its own mounting plate. I use a lot of labels because I like to stay organized, so these will last me a few months, but I will need more later. If I notice any problems with quality or durability, I will update this review.
Fits easily on all containers.
I was using another brand before, but Betckey‘s labels are way better.
